IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA EDISON'S COMPANY'S
FUTURE GAS RATES ON SANTA CATALINA ISLAND
Southern California Edison Company (SCE) wishes to inform
you that your gas bills may decrease on September 1, 1998.
This is pnmarily due to decreases in the price SCE pays its
suppliers for liquefied petroleum gas used to serve its
customers at Santa Catalina Island. On ,July 20, 1998, SCE
filed Advice 108-G with the California Public Utilities
Commission (Commission) requesting that this decreased
cost of fuel be passed on to customers.
If the commission approves this advice filing, the following
changes in rates will become effective for service rendered
on and after September 1, 1998.
Present Revised Energy Charge
Energy Charge =of 1,199e
Customer Group Smlerms $/Themw
Residential
Baseline 0.97979 0.83691
Nonbaseline 1.12675 0.96245
Commercial 1.41803 1.23771
WHAT THESE CHANGES WILL MEAN
TO RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS
The average residential gas consumption on Santa Catalina
Island is 60 therms (a measure of the heat content of gas)
per month in the winter, and 23 therms per month in the
summer. If this advice filing is approved by the Commission,
the average residential customer's monthly bill will decrease
by approximately $8.98 or 18.7 percent in the winter, and
$3.76 or 12.6 percent in the summer. However, the actual
impact on your bill will vary depending on your energy use.
If the Commission approves Advice 108-G, the revenue
decrease will be divided among SCE's gas customers as
shown below:

Domestic 303,000 (45.5) (12.3)
General Service 3 ,000
