The figures were given by \V. S. Bauder, head of the Fish and Game Commission offices of the State Com- mercial Fisheries Department at the Harbor. During the thirty-day period a total of 20,628,958 pounds of fish were de- livered to harbor canneries and whole- salers. Of this total, 19,122,229 pounds consisted of sardines alone. The totals compared with 2,146,201 pounds of sardines packed in October and a total catch of 4,336,046 pounds during November last year. The in- crease in the amount of sardines pack- ed in November over the catch of October was approximately 17,000,000 pounds. The November sardine pack was al- most equal to the amount of that spe- cial variety packed in February. 1924, the peak and record month of last season's activities. The remarkable increase over Oc- tober's catch and the fact that the November catch ahnost reached record proportions indicates beyond a doubt that the season will be tile greatest in the history of the port. More than 600 fishing boats, with a crew of from one to fonr men each, were engaged last month in catching the fish, and seven or eight canneries worked full time to pack the immense catch. Fishermen throughout the port dis- trict have welcomed the activity ow- ing to the fact that many of them have been practically idle since the nfiddle of the summer, when the bot- to~n fell out of the fish market. One reason for the great activity ila the canneries this season has been the constant and growing demand for Southern California fish in foreign and domestic markets in distant localities. The local port will hang up a new world's fisheries record for 1924, it was announced by J. M. Rosen, chief of the Connnercial Fisheries Bureau of the California Fish and Game Con> mission. Mr. Rosen said that the local fleet has already passed the fisheries of Grimsby, Glouster and Boston. "Keep Avalon a Spotless Town." \Ve pledge our help! Subscribe now--S2.00 per year. By advertising you sell to several hundred people at one time instead of to the single individual. Advertising does not belong to the realm of magic. It is ability to talk of the product in plain, honest and straightforward terms that ap- peal to the reason and desires of the people whose trade is sought. How do you advertise? There are no end of ways in which you may advertise; there is the bill-board, the circular, the poster, the window display, the circular letter, the personal letter, by word of mouth, and the newspaper, the best method of them all. What does advertising do for you?~All advertising is in- tended to create good will for the product or service adver- tised. Your advertising should create good will for your store throughout your trading aera and thereby increase the volume of your business or your annual turn-over.
