Chamber announces Shop at Home winners The organizers of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau's annual Shop at Home Night, held on Saturday, Dec. 1, say it was a great success. Residents and visitors came out for Santa and the Christmas tree lighting, caroling and shopping on a gorgeous winter evening. The 17 participating mer- chants offered Shop at Home discounts cards valid until Christmas Eve and stamped the Treasure Card for entry iJato the New Year's Eve Gala drawing. Each store held an individual drawing that evening to give away a store gift. The Chamber's representatives said they are pleased to announce the names of the Shop At Home Night prize winners. The names of the winners for each individual store drawing are: 1. A Touch Of Heaven - 1-and- one-half hour facial and couples massage) - Mindy Malan and a 90 minute facial - Lidia Gonzales Wedding Bells for Dunlavy-Gjolme Kristi Lynn Dunlavy and Chris- tian Andreas Gjolme were married on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at The "M" by Zest on Catalina Island. Family friend Anni Marshall officiated. The bride is the daughter of Ga- len Dunlavy of Long Beach and Terry Dunlavy of Avalon. Kristi graduated from Cal State Long Beach and works as an elementary school teacher in Fountain Valley. The groom is the son of Doores Gjolme of Glendale and the late Harold Gjolme. Christian gradu- ated from Cal poly Pomona and is a city planner in La Canada-Flin- tridge. The bride was escorted by her father. The bridesmaids were Julie Ann Dunlavy and Jennifer Diane Dunlavy. Notice City of Avalon DMV Re: Mini Trucks/Porter Style Vehicles The City Council of the City of Avalon has authorized the City  Attorney to communicate to the Department of Motor Vehicles on behalf of those Avalon residents who have had their license plates removed from the mini-trucks/porters to ascertain the reasons why the plates were removed as well as try to reach a sblution with the DMV that will allow such vehicles to remain in Avalon. The DMV has indicated that it will only allow the City Attorney to communicate with it on behalf of Avalon resi- dents if the residents consent to such communication. If'you own such a vehicle and had the plates removed and would like the City Attorneys office to communicate with the DMV on your behalf, please contact Dudley Morand at City Hall, (310) 510-0220 by December 23, 2012. City of Avalon Avalon Fire Department Is now developing a hiring list for the position of Reserve Firefighter. Applicants must be full-time residents of Avalon, be at least 18 years of age, posses a valid California Drivers License and be able to pass a background investigation. Definition: Under the supervision of a command officer, participate in firefighting activi- ties through the use of hoses, ladders and other firefighting equipment. After completing probationary training conduct firefighting operations in environ- ments that could be immediately dangerous to life and health. Assist in providing emergency medical services and other related work as required. How to Apply: Applications may be obtained from the Finance Department at Avalon City Hall. All applications must be turned in by 5:00 EM. December 31, 2012. All applications should show education and experience relevant tO the posi- tion, incomplete applications will be rejected. Selection Procedure: Applicants will be screened and those candidates possessing the most rel- evant experience will be invited to participate in an oral interview.
