THE ABALONE George Sterling, of Carmel, has ex- hausted every effort to dig out every word in the English language that rhymes with abalone to sing the prais- es of what was once thought a use- less mollusk. Ernest r)oulter, however, is practical. not poetical, and the preparation of abalone steaks will be the subject of an article which will be featured in an issue of the Standard Oil Coml, any's monthly trade bulletin to be issued soon, "Pop's" life work, the development of the abalone fronl a tough and use- less mollusk into a toothsome dainty which it now is, will be related in this article. Illustrations showing each phase in the preparation of the steaks will be incorporated, in the story. Photograph- ers under direction of A. J. Wolcott. assistant agent of the company in Monterey, "shot" scenes on the munic- ipal wharf recently. The bulletin has a circulation of be- tween 10,000 and 20,000. It will be sent to all service stations on the Pac- ific coast. A number of copies will be sent east to tell the story of the abalone.
