The Stanford Symphony Orchestra will be featured in the Catalina Island Museum's first Holiday Concert on Dec. 13 in the Avalon Casino Theatre. Photos courtesy of the Catalina Island Museum. Finally, we endwithAppalachian Spring: contemplative, expansive, joyous. Appalachian Spring is thirty minutes of uninterrupted music, so I wanted to balance it out with pieces that are short- er, very fun and accessible, and showcase different combinations of instruments, while still tying together an overarching theme: "Sounds of America" The Holiday Concert, A Classical Christmas, will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the Avalon Casino Theatre. Rose Arno King Jolene Rose Arno King passed away in Long Beach, on Nov. 1, 2013 after a short illness. She was born in San Pedro, on Sept. 23, 1940 and came to Avalon at the age of 10 days with her parents, Joe and Rose Arno. Jolene gradu- ated Avalon High School in 1958, and after graduation moved to Long Beach to further her edu- cation. She married Jerry King in 1960 and they had two children. She lived in Lakewood, Seal Beach and then Long Beach until her death. Jolene was preceded in death by her husband and her parents and is survived by her children Jeri Lynn and Jim and her sister, Rose Ellen Gardner, as well sev- eral nieces and nephews. As an avid entrepreneur, Jolene founded and operated a number of successful small businesses, in many cases partnering with her daughter Jeri and son Jim. In this sense, Jolene is not only missed as a lovingly supportive mother, but also as a mentor, colleague and business partner. Throughout her life and work she reached many people, and made many dear friends from all walks of life, from all over the world. A celebratory gathering for family and friends was held in Long Beach on Nov. 16 and her remains will be returned to Catalina Island for burial in the open at 6;30 p~.m. Seating is limit- ed and ticket~ are required. Limit 5 tickets per person. Prior to the Holiday Concert, visit the Catalina Island Museum's annual Holiday-Open House from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees will enjoy free admis- sion to the museum and its special exhibition, Avalon: 100 ~Years of Bizarre, Fascinating and Colorful History, 10% - 50% off every item in the Museum Store and a free tasting by Steve's Steakhouse.
