Tim MartineUi 1951-2014 Tim Martinelli (1951-2014), who for over 30 years enlivened Avalon with spirited political dialogue, ir- reverent satire, and Italian cooking delivered with a rebellious Detroit swagger, died October 31 on the Island he lovingly referred to as a "minimum-security island detention facility." He was 63 years old. A bare-knuckle chef who drew on family recipes from Abruzzi by way of Michigan, Tim brought a tornado of energy to the kitchens at the Inn on Mt. Ada, the Landing, and Joe's Place, among other local establishments. His colorful, brash conversation peppered with quotes and historical details added spice and humanity to the dining experience. An outspoken and subversive humorist, Tim began to publish the brilliant "Jivelander" news- letter, a critique of locals and their government. He always laughed with us, of course. He went on to become one of the first DJ's to broadcast on community radio station KISL, where his love of rock and roll combined with political comedy to create many entertaining hours of radio. He is survived by his beloved daughter Alessandra Martinelli of Avalon and New York, where she studies at Columbia University, and his siblings Kathy Wochaski, Peggy Everts, Sandra Rizzo, David Martinelli, Steve Martinelli, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial is planned for December 6 at 12:00pm at his cherished Pebbly Beach swimming and beachcombing spot alongside the Catalina Laundry. ?
