CACTUS APPLES CROP GOOD The cactus apple or prickly pear crop for 1924, which principally is grown in the gently rolling hills back of San Diego, has been harvested and shiplmd to market. Eleven car loads of this htcious fruit were sent east this season, principally to New York, where the pears are quite in demand. The cactus apples brought something over $3000 a ear, therefore proving a very profitable crop. The cactus apple is universally pop- ular, regardless of the fact that with some varieties a blowtorch is ahnost necessary to singe off the stickers or fine needles. Furthernmre, those en- gaged in harvesting the crop nmst be careful al)out sitting down o/1 an open crate of the prickly pears lest in get- sing up they find the top layer stick- tug to the anatomy. However the in- troduction of the Burbank spineless variety has done )ntlch to do away with the difficulties of picking fruit. GAME FISH OF CATALINA Yellowtail (Seriola dorsalis).
