If a person inadvert- antly sprays us with a garden hose we may be justified in feeling angry, but would not be justified in assault- ing him. The difference between good and bad citizenship is therefore mea- surable in terms of adjustment. *:,k* Sometimes an environmental influ- ence demands aggressiveness; some- times it requires conciliation. Our ad- justments must fit the requirement if we expect the best of results. *** Selfishness is one of the effects of wrong adjustment. When a person is selfish he implies a too pronounced egotistic interest in a certain environ- mental influence, and wrongly adjusts himself by selfishly appropriating an undue value to himself. Fear is another effect of wrong ad- justment. The person who is fearful endows an environmental influence with an exaggerated import. Nervousness is another illustratiol~ of a tendency towards wrong adjust- ment. Nervousness is simply uncon- scions fear, and unconsciotts fear is a wrong adjustment which has become automatic in its manifestation. *** Anger is nothing but fear. It is dis- guised cowardice. Anger is therefore a typical product of wrong adjustment to environmeut. Tarpon, una, Deep Sea or Ocean Reel The Reel That Made the Taking of Large Game Fish a Real Sport FOR SALE BY H. D. The person who worries is either living in the past, or else is manfesting fear of the future. In both instances he is wrongly ad- justing himself. Blessed is the individual who has cultivated the faculty of rightly ad- justing himself to enviromnent, for he will be happy, the fire of his soul will be eternally replenished, and he will possess a peace which passeth under- standing.
