t On Sports Rams in first place. The Rams are in first place of the Western Division of the National Football League. They overpowered the Dallas Cowboys in the sec- ond half and pulled out a 35-30 vic- tory o~er America's Team the Cowboys. Jared Goff and Todd Gurley were Jim Ferguson the offensive leaders. GoffColumnist passed for over 250 yards and Gurley dominated the Cowboys defense by racking up over 120 yards on the ground coupled with 94 yards through the air on 8 catches. This puts the Rams at 3-1 in their division. Los Angeles will take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in the Coliseum. The Seahawks were the early season favorite to capture the West and will have a fight on their hands with the now confident Rams. Now the Chargers are a com- pletely different story. High expectations were in order for the Chargers as they relocated from San Diego. Veteran quarterback in Phillip Rivers and a top notch receiver group lead you to believe the Chargers could make a run at the Western Division of the American Football Conference. Well that hasn't been the case for the Chargers. They dropped their fourth straight game 26-24 to the Philadelphia Eagles and now reside at the bottom of the standings. They have lost three games by a total of seven points. Hopefully this weekend when they take on the only other winless team, the New York Giants, they can pre- vail and move forward and put together some {ictories. Their cozy Stadium StubHub center is becoming a heaven for visiting teams. Race to the World Series Baseball season now starts the race to the World Series. The Dodgers pulled themselves togeth- er and finished the season with 104 wins in the regular season topping everyone in wins. This gives the Dodgers the home field advantage all the way through the playoffs if they advance in each round. The team will play either Arizona or Colorado in the first round which starts on Friday. Kershaw and crew will be at full strength and will need it. All the contenders in the National League are powerful well balanced teams. Good luck Dodgers it's been a long time since Kirk Gibson knocked that Dennis Eckersley pitch into the right field stands in 1988 that propelled them to the World Championship. The Angels finished their sea- son at 80-82 and will have to wait for next year. Lots of contenders for the American League with Cleveland and Houston being the early favor- ites to face the National Leagues best. The gutty little Bruins won a must win game Saturday night against the Colorado Buffalos 27-23 at the Rose Bowl. Once again quarterback Josh Rosen drove the offensive with 372 yards passing. The victory stopped a two game skid for UCLA. They get a week off to heal some of their bumps, and bruises With Jim Ferguson The Los Angeles Rams were able to contain Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott enough to edge a 35-30 victory. The mighty Trojans fell to the Washington Cougars in Pullman, Washington last Friday night. The Cougars prevailed 30-27 against the Men from Troy, to dash any hopes of a National Title run. The vaunted Trojans who escaped close games against Western Michigan, Texas and California finally met their match against the Cougs. The accurate passing of Luke Faulk and timely runs kept the Trojans off balance and sent the Cougar faithful into a frenzy as the gun sounded. Next up for the Trojans are the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday at the Coliseum. Todd Gurley II made an enormous contribution to the Rams' win over the Cowboys on Sunday. He rackedup over 200 total yards on the game.
