Pirates prepare for Buccaneer Days THE 23RD ANNUAL EVENT IS POIS"D FOR FIRST WEEKEND OF O,3TOBER Arrrr...Labor Dayis gone. But don't fret mateys. It's time once again to roll out the "Port Royal" red Catalina carpet for that lovely event we call "Buccaneer Days." The 23rd annual Buccaneer Days, hosted by The Santa Catali- na Island Company, will run from Oct. 4 to 7 in Two Harbors. Buccaneer Days is one of the first "off-season" events that helps draw visitors to the Island and keep its tourist economy pumping after the summer crowds dwindle to a trickle. It is also a highly an- ticipated tradition that brings a pre-Halloween sense of mirth to the Island and the event's partici- pants. Attendees are invited to don their finest pirate costume and set sail for a weekend of great food, cold drinks, live music, treasure hunts;, a costume contest and much more, The $20 cover charge provides access to four days of entertain- ment at the Two Harbors resort. This year's event will include live bands on all four days, as well as a disc jockey in between shows. The Pirate Village will encompass the Harbor Reef deck as well as the plaza below, with satellite bars and plenty of swash- buckling decoration. Between treasure hunts and costume contests, there is fun for everyone. The VIP "Captain's Quarters" will be available daily and will include a clean, com- fortable grass area with a private restroom and bartender. Sailor Jerry representatives will be in the "Captain's Quarters" as well. This year will also include pre-sale for VIP passes, weekend passes, and potential transportation to;and from Avalon. During Buccaneer Days, it is highly recommended that boaters reserve moorings in advance using the Two Harbors online moorings reservation system. Otherwise, cross-channel transportation is available from San Pedro and Ava- lon on the Catalina Express or take a wild ride through Catalina's rug- ged interior on the Catalina Expe- ditions Safari Bus from Avalon for $32 per person ($26 for children) each way. The Island Company is explor- ing other transportation options to and from Avalon, in order to make this event, available to those who live in or visit our beautiful city. Opening events begin Thursday, Oct. 4. For more information about Santa Catalina Island, visit www. Website From page 1 reachequal to the paid subscribers of th weekly newspaper.
