West End reunion set for Long Beach Special to the Islander What do people who grew up in the '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s all have in common? Well if they happen to have lived at the West End of Catalina Island .. they actually have quite a bit in common silly photos and stories to say the least. Over 193 "Islanders" have been sharing theirpast experiences, spe- cial memories and photos on Face- book, while they excitedly aWait the upcoming "'Two Harbors-West End Reunion" scheduled for'Oct. 8, 2011 at Alamitos Bay Yacht. Club in LongBeach. The reunion starts at5 p.m..with cocktails and dinner is being served at 6 p.m. The menu includes: West End Chicken, Kalua Parsons Pig, Moonstone Meatballs, RippEr's Rice Pilaf, Cat Harbor Coleslaw, Isthmus Sweet Rolls and Buffalo Chip Dessert. Cost is $38 per per- son or $70 per couple. "Live enter- tainment is scheduled as well as an Islander jam session. Mainland ac- commodations are also available and further details can be seen on the reunion Web site. In addition to the reunion, con- tact information is being collected to establish an "Islander Direc- tory" for those residents and staff that worked at the West End of the Island, so that they can stay in con- tact from this point forward. The reunion was instigated by Stacy Massey, who has been plan- ning reunions for the last 30-plus years. In speaking to other past Is- land residents, it was agreed that an Islander shindig waslong over- due. Massey took the ball and ran with it. Stacy began visiting the Isth- mus in the early '70s with her parents Donna and John Massey, who were/are Isthmus Yacht Club members and mooring owners. Staey loved the Island so much,. she gave up a college scholarship and moved to the Island in the summer of 1980. She was hon- ored to work with Bombard En- terprises in numerous roles and has great recollections of her time on staff. Stacy's toes contnue to touch Catalina sand each year as she loves to spend as much time as possible enjoying, what she calls, her "Island paradise." Stacy said it will be a "Blow Out Bash." On July 25, Gabriel Saldafia (left) and Devin Eubank were the next two boys from Avalon Boy Scout Troop 400 to advance to the rank of Eagle Scout. Aside from earning the required 21 (or more) merit badges, holding a posit.ion of leadership in their troop, putting together and following through with a community service project, the boys must also pass an Eagle Scout Board of Review, which they both did with flying colors.
