(Sunshine Psychology Service) Through the medium of our press clippings we arc able to review the past--in a way. Take "the Frank's nmrder case, of Chicago, for instance. That much of the crime committed is due to the surroundings amt en- viormnent is becoming more and more accepted by those who are studying human actions. Faith is the power of today's thoughts by which we die in the finite past, or LIVE in the INFINITE FU- TURE. Dreanl world dwellers are not al- ways criminals. Those dreams and im- agination processes that tend to the morbid, hateful and vicious side of life, seem to be the ones that finally de- velop into a "diseased mentality." Rub two pieces of ice together very rapidly and they will melt. Friction causes the heat. So it is in the fric- tion of human mentalities, no matter how cold and icy two persons' emo- tions may be. There is a difference between the angler with a motive for true sports- manship, and the man with an unsat- isfied desire to kill fish. Note the dif- ference between motive and desire. * * * "4 * * It is easy to make inflammatory preachings about the government. And, what government is wholly satisfac- tory ? Some politicians misunderstand statements intentionally. It gives them something to talk about. There are several kinds of smiles, but-the sntile of contentment and sin- ccrity is the best. The sntile of inno- cense is good, too; but a lot can be brewing back of such smile. Most of us do learn lessons from the lowly worm. It wiggles arid squirrns when it is put on a hook. Man's education is never finished-- not if he is caring properly for his mind ! On one of the Avalon water front seats the other day sat a woman in a bathing suit. She was manicuring her finger nails, eating candy and reading a "Sloppy Stories" magazine. What was her "influence" among a crowd of healthy boys and girls ? and governs himself accordingly, then no serious results will follow. While this is true with individuals it is far more true and far more pre- valent in crowds and communities--as will be testified to by any student of crowd psychology. Confidence and co-operation are a sure cure for the illnesses which are magnified by individual fears or by mob mistakes. Take any crowd of men or women and let an orator appear before them and tell them that panic is prevalent and money is tight and realty values are dwindling; that financial monopoly is in the hands of the rich few', that oppression is rampant and that soup kitchens are imminent--take any crowd and any kind of a speaker who advances these fallacious arguments and he will speedily obtain a following. By "following" is not meant essential- ly that those who believe will sieze clubs and torches and go forth to de- stroy. But they will go forth and de- stroy just the same. They will do it by word and action. They will withdraw their confidence in the integrity of their fellowmen. They will withdraw their money from circu- lation. They will withdraw their bus- iness from its usual channels. And by such withdrawal, they will influence others. That is crowd psychology as applied to the assassination of business, pro- gress and prosperity. But, on the other hand, if, instead of merely listening and believing, these hearers would devote only a small por- tion of that time to thought and con- sideration, they would speedily see that confidence and co-operation are the ir- refutable answer to the curbstone agi- tator or the whispering cynic. Crowd psychology works both ways. And the crowd psychology which is beneficial to people, to conanaunities, to cities, to states and to nations is that which buihls up, unites and carries on. The man who builds up and who helps others to buihl up is the great- est modern benefactor. Whisperings of idle rumor tear down. Outspoken expressions of con- fidence build up. And confidence and co-operation and accomplishment point the pathway to achievement -- financially, physically, morally and mentally. So let us have financial co-operation and suecess.--Walnut Park News. Assassins of Progress Psychology has much to do with sickness--be that sickness mental, moral, physical or financial. The man who is slightly i11, by his own mental ture store, electricians, dry goods stores, curio stores, photographers, fish market, confectionery stands, news stands, etc. Three church organizations--Congre- gational, Christian Science and Catholic. Has nightly band concerts for three months during the summer in out- door natural amphitheatre. Many groves of beautiful lilac trees (tree myrtle) beautify the hillsides and canyon slopes in the SF-ing. Splendid glass-bottomed boats through which to see the submarine gardens and sea life through crystal clear water.
