Fire in Landing Restaurant At about 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, a small electrical fire occured in the dowstairs satel- lite bar of the Landing Restaurant. Restaurant employees were prepar- ing for a private event in the El Encanto courtyard area when the incident occured. They were set- ting up the lower level bar, when smoke began pouring out of the small space causing the work- ers to quickly move out. After attempting to extin- guish the source of the smoke with a handheld fire extinguisher, a call was placed requesting emergency services. Several Los Angeles Sheriffs Department offi- cers appeared on site, followed by four City of Avalon Fire Department vehicles and their crew. The fireflghters quickly and efficiently assessed the situation and secured the scene. Once safety was assured, the private party that was planned in the courtyard went on as scheduled.
