KELLY Monsignor Cyril Navin died Friday, June 24, 66 years to the day adler he Was ordained a Ro- man Catholic F riest. Sampson recalled that only Navin could successfully throw the rock over the hill into the park- ing lot there. Sampson said Navin always had a way of getting kids to go to catechism and become altar boys. Saldana said Navin talked he and his wife into going to confes- sion. "We felt good coming out of there," Saldana remembered. Navin frequently attended din- ners prepared by the Saldana fam- I Cap,on C Li NI C ily. Sampson said the only thing better than a Saldana dinner was a Saldana dinner blessed by Father Navin. When he wasn't serving his parish, Navin would swim at Peb- bly Beach. Sampson said he swam there right up to the end. Navin was also an avid fisherman. • "He used to like to talk about fishing," Sampson said. Navin spent a lot of time fishing at the Thompson Reservoir. Saldana said Navin held the record for the larg- est fish caught there and b.elieved the fish weighed 38 pounds.
