Children gather for CHOICES' commun event. Courtesy photo CHOICES hosts two community events This past week CHOICES hosted two events for the commu- nity of Avalon. First up was the lip sync featuring 14 acts. The popular song of the night was "Frozen" sang three different times. The  most featured artist was songs by Demi Lovato including "Let It Go," "Skyscraper," and "I Really Don't Care." There were four judges who chose the winners Daniela Osegueda and Jazmine Rodriguez. The Santa Catalina Island Company for donated all the prizes for all the events in July. On Monday CHOICES hosted the Movie on the Beach sponsored by The Lions Club of Avalon. More than 500 people attended. The movie was "Frozen," which is very popular. Straight Up Builders remains undefeated were two for two. Betty Tejeda, 161 BY PATTI ENGEL The first game of the night was an exciting contest between Maggie's Blue Rose and Straight Up Builders. Maggies Blue Rose showed patience, taking advan- tage of five walks, three base hits and a double from Betty Tejeda to bring home nine. Straight Up Builders used two walks, three errors, a base hit and doubles from Keani Hooikaika and Marisa Morones to score seven. In the third, Maggies Blue Rose added three more to their lead. Shelly Jimenez had a double to bring home two. Straight Up Builders tied it up in the bottom half of the inning when two walks, two base hits, a double from Vicki Rogers and a triple from Callie Moreno to bring home five. In the bottom of the fourth, with time expired, Straight Up Builders had two base hits, then a double from Keani Hooikaika to score the winning run. Final score, Maggies Blue Rose 12, Straight Up Builders 13. For Maggies Blue Rose, Shelly Jimenez and Meghan Martinez Sandy Gutierrez, Rosandra Hernandez, Moniqua Garcia and Patty Gutierrez all collected one hit. For Straight Up Builders, Marisa Morones and Vicki Rogers both were two for two. Keani Hooikaika also had two hits. Nickey Kennedy, Callie Moreno and Melissa Talsky all had one hit. The second game of the night was not as exciting between Chet's Hardware and Lins Ladies. Chet's scored first, bringing home a run off the double from Sarah Glahn. Lins Ladies scored three on an error, a double from Teri Alexander and a triple from Lupe Sanchez. Lins Ladies added to their lead with another five runs in the third. Rachel McCormick had a double, Teri Alexander and Aliana Gonzales had triples in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Lins Ladies put the game away when two walks and five base hits, along with an error and fielder's choice brought home eight. In the top of the fifth with time expired, Chet's Hardware contin- ued to struggle offensively, and the game ended with the score Chet's Hardware 1, Lins Ladies For Chet's Hardware, Maribel Rodriguez, val Medina, Sarah Glahn, Lisa Cole and Patti Engel all had a hit. For Lins Ladies, Teri Alexander, Lupe Sanchez and Aliana Gonzales all had two hits. With one hit were Lyndsey Salmeron, Tina Garcia, Rachel McCormick, Cyndee Mahan and Chela Hernandez.
