Fourth of July Music Festival to feature Avalon band Something Local band's first true gig. was at Avalon's Marlin Club STORY AND PHOTOS COURTESY OF THE CATALINA ISLAND MUSEUM This year's Catalina Island Museum Fourth of July Music Festival will feature one of the most popular bands in Avalon: Something. They rocked the Casino Point stage at last year's festival and are sure to do the same this year. Something is comprised of Sean McAleavy, Johnny Vickers, Lorenzo "Renzo" Sampson and Matt Jones. They have been performing together since 1986, playing their first true gig at the Marlin Club, but are quick to joke around about their start playing for prom, a handful of weddings and a regular performance at the dump. Spend any amount of time with the band and you will quickly realize they do not take them- selves too seriously. However, their musical talent cannot be dismissed. All kidding aside they have played in almost every location imagin- able on the island - from Parson's Landing to Pebbly Beach - pack- ing the house every time. "We had a blast playing up on that stage last year," said Sampson. "Casino Point was one of the few venues we had not played, throw in a fireworks show as an added bonus in such a beautiful place ...
