Courtesy photo Charity group digs into trash problem with pride and gusto STAFF REPORT Avalon Beautiful, a local 501 (c)(3) non-profit, recently joined together with about 60 volunteers to hit the streets of Avalon for a Community Clean-Up. Residents and visitors of all ages set out to different parts of town bright and early on a Saturday morning armed with bags, gloves, scrubbers and a mis- sion. You may have noticed them wiping down railings along Mole Park and the basketball and vol- leyball courts, picking up trash LIC #738968 RESIDENTIAL- COMMERCIAL-INDUSTRIAL I GENERATOR SALES & INSTALLATION ( hpairs I New ˘,est /Remodel / Tenantlmprovement AVALON 310-510-9239 OFFICE 310-829-5007 near the school and golf course, scrubbing trash cans on Front Street or picking up hundreds (yes, hundreds) of cigarette butts throughout the local streets, espe- cially out at the Casino. The overall goal was simple - clean up the town. The great- er objective, which will be an on-going aim for our organiza- tion is this: Take Pride in Your Community. If you (the one hold- ing this paper and reading this article) see a piece of trash on the ground and decide to pick it up, you are taking pride in your com- munity. If you speak up when a piece of trash is dropped on the ground or make the choice to pick it up even though someone else dropped it, you are showing your pride in your community to others. When we set the good example, others will follow. To each of the volunteers that joined us - thank you for being a great illustration of an involved community member! We could not have done it without you!
