Friends and family members joined the City of Avalon Fire Department on Wednesday, May 30 to honor Chief Jack Goslin for his four decades of ser-
vice to the community. The new City Fire Department was dedicated to his memory, and a plaque is now affixed to the front of the building which
reads, "Jack "Chief" Goslin (1936-2010) Avalon Fireman 1962-1971. Chief 1971-2001. In recognition of Jack's four decades of service to the Avalon
Commimity.. Often the only firefighter on duty, always the first on scene. This station• which he helped design, is dedicated to the man simply known

Chelsea McCormick makes
softball homerun history

The first game of the night was
between Straight Up Builders and
Bravo's Landscaping. Straight UP
Builders got off to a quick start
with the two run inside the park
homer from isaac Felix.
Bravo's Landscaping came
right back with an inside the park
homer from Jose Cuevas, followed
by two doubles and two singles to
score a total of four. Straight Up
Builders reclaimed the lead with
three runs in the second.
Bravo's Landscaping tied it up
on the triple from Bob Kennedy
who scored 9n a throwing error.
The game continued with a run
from Sfraight Up Billdets fol-
lowed by a run from Bravo's.
Bravo's Landscaping then took the
lead in t/ae bottom of the fifth with
a run.
Straight Up Builders scored
four more jr! :the sixth for a0other
change of iead in the game. Three
more followed in the seventh.
Down by six, BravEs Landscaping
came up with their last chhnce at
the game.
A couple of errors, two doubles,
a single and a sacrifice fly added
up to five runs. With runners on
second and third and two outs,
Bravo's Landscaping couldn't
come up with a hit, and the game
ende d with them a run shy. Final
score Bravo's Landscaping "12,
Straight Up Builders 13.
For Bravo's Landscaping, Larry
Hernandez and Bob Kennedy
were 3-3. Joe Cuevas, Joes Tovar
and Hedy Alvarado all collect-
ed two hits. Carlos Hernandez,
Bart Glass, Mary Amoroso and
Lyndsey Salmeron all contributed
a hit.
For Straight Up Builders, Isaac
Felix was 4-4. Porschia Denning
had three hits. Joe Hernandez,
Beto Martin and Roberto Cisneros
all collected two hits. Scotty
Rohlafsen. Eddie Arnold,
Courtney Eary, Melinda Felix and
Mindy Malan all had one hit.

came to lay, and batted around the
order. Nine runs scored, four 0f
them from Robert Reye'8 inside
the park Grand Slam.
The Lobster Trap added two
more runs in the second before
Chuy Sillas made a great catch
in left to rob Manny Hernandez
of the extra base hit and end the
inning. Both teams scored ttrree
in the third.
The Lobster Trap added one
more in the fourth. In the fifth and
final inning, The Sand Trap had
three more runs score, one from
another home run £rom Chelsea
McCorm!ck, is :time inside the
park.

ended with the score The Sand
Trap 10, The Lobster Trap 15.
For the Sand Trap Chelsea
McCormick had the hot bat, going
4-5 with two home runs.

Hooikaika, and Dustin Cookman
all collected two hits.
Chuy Sillas, Edmundo Vega
and Santiago Martinez all con-
tributed one hit. For the Lobster
Trap, Robert Reyes, Jimmy Felix,

Second game, two Traps
The second game of the night
was between The Sand Trap
and The Lobster Trap. Jorge
Hernandez opened the game with
a double. Chelsea McCormick
came up to bat right after, and
promptly hit the ball over the left'
field fence. Chelsea is the first
female to hit a home run out of
the park at the Joe Machado Field.
