Purchase of $23,951,138 in U. S. Sav-
ings Bonds by Southern Californians
in April, brought the eleven counties
total to $98,368,144, since January 1st.
April purchases in Los Angeles
Connty totaled $11,323,848, and the ag-
gregate for the ,first four months of
1946 was $76,100,61~ ~
Tile figures, which include sales of
Series E, F and G Bonds, were'an-
nounced this week by Fred H. Johnson,
Southern California director of the
U. S. Savings Bonds Division, Treasury
Department. Bulk of the area's sa!es

D. C by Johnson reveal that the en-
tire state of California is second in
the nation in accumulated E, F and G
Bond sales from May 1, 1941, to April
1, 1946, New York being ,first, with
Pennsylvania only slightly less than
this state
"It is hoped that we can maintain
this standing", Johi'lson said.

Cancer Campaign
Enters Final Stage
All those who have yet to contribute,
to the American Cancer Society's cur-
rent cancer control fund-raising cam-
paign were urged to do so today, as the
campaign entered its final stages.
This t~leff wa.s made by California
campaign chairman A. J. Gock, chair-
man of the board of the Bank o[ :Mn-
erica, as he emphasized the importance
of everyone backing the, program t'o
curtail deaths by cancer, this country's
foremost enemy.
To (late, Gock said, with a Cali-
fornia quota of $850,000,although this
goal is leses than 10 cents for each
resident, the campaign is still short of
its objective.
"The only way to reach this goal is
for everyone to contribute whatever
he, can no matter how little", said
Gock. " Ve all know the importance
of wiping out cancer, and the only way
this can be clone is with the concen-
trated SUPl)ort of e,very one of us."
Californians will benefit directly
from the funds raised, Gock stated,
as 60 per cent ot the money collected
will be retained in the state for cancer
control work here. The, remainder goes
into scientific research, a national ed-
ucation campaign, and administration.
