People who are vet- erans of many other film festivals told us that this was their favorite•" Truppa said according to initial re- view of ticket sales, it appears that more than 1,000 people came to Catalina from the mainland for the festival• In addition, Truppa said the event drew about 44,000 people on Saturday who viewed portions of the festival and seminars online• On Sunday, more than 30,000 people watched the live web cast of the New Media Markets panel at the Canyon Inn. This brought total live web cast view- ers for the weekend to more than 74,000 people, and helped advertise the Island which relies on it tourist trade for its economic survival. "We wanted this to be a win-win event for all involved and I'm glad to think that we introduced a lot of people to the Island and that there will be ben- efits for Avalon for a long time," Truppa said. "We found the Island residents very supportive of the festival, from the folks at the Conservancy, without whose help this would not have been possible, to the kids at the high school and Avalon Church who were great representatives, eagerly giving people directions to festi- val event locations around the city."
