The zest, real sport and personal satisfaction of being classed as real anglers would soon be lost. It would seem ahnost like hunting big game wiih a machine gun. There would be no need of angling skill, nor for the assistance and advice of ex- perienced boatmen. When a big fish had been safely hooked and the line was long enough tO do so the angler could sit down amt smoke his pipe while the fish was drowning itself in its frantic rushes for liberty. It might possibly be necessary to pump the fish up to the boat after the strug- gle was practically over. The boat- man would then do the rest. in fact, about all the angler would have to do would be to lint on the brakes and let the fish run. Such a method of hand- ling a fish would hardly be designed as scientific sea angling. In a t)revious article I explained that fishing from a skiff was the easiest and most satisfactory method of land- mg big fish. Keeping close to the game is always an essential feature of sea angling. A big fish cannot be successfully handled at the end of a hundred or more feet of line. For that reason a small, light, ilatbottomed boat is practically essential to success. Dur- ing my sea angling experience [ did most of my trolling for big fish in a skiff hauled over the fishing grounds by a launch. When we had a strike my boatman would cast the skiff loose from the launch and the battle would begin. That method of sea angling does not involve nmch nmre expense, because a boy after a little training could handle the launch and keep it (Continued on Page 8, Column 3) CATALINA SWORDFISH-TUNA REEL The Highest Grade Reel Ever Made---Guaranteed Forever Made in Three sizes: 4-0, 6-0, and 9-0 Patented J.
