A strikeout ends 16- 14 game with Bravo's Landscaping team BY PATTI ENGLE The final game of the 2014 winter Co-Ed Softball Season was a battle between Bravo's Landscaping and the Lobster Trap. The Lobster Trap came up to bat first and started off with a home run from Scotty Rohlfsen. Jorge Hernandez went back to back with his own out of the park short. A ground out was followed by doubles from Robert Reyes and Dave Clary. A single with two outs brought home the fourth run of the inning. Bravo's Landscaping got their turn and hit four doubles in a row from Danny Alonso, Josh Flynn, Lupe Sanchez and Larry Hernandez. Three singles followed which brought home five runs. A fly-out followed by a double play ended the inning. The Lobster Trap regained the lead when, with two runners on, Scotty Rohlfsen hit his second home run of the game to collect the three runs of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, the husband-wife team of Juan and Karla Rodriguez teamed up when the fly ball bounced off Karla's glove and landed in Juan's glove behind her to record the out. A double play then ended the m inning. The Lobster Trap added to their lead with four more runs in the third. Bravo's Landscaping kept it close in the bottom of the inning. Danny Alonso hit a double. Josh Flynn was then robbed of an extra base hit by the amazing catch from Karla Rodriguez in deep right center. " An RBI double from Lupe Sanchez was followed by a single, then a home run from Nick Flores, for a total of three runs in the inning. Bravo's Landscaping added one more run in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Robert Reyes hit a triple for Lobster Trap, then later scored. Larry Hernandez made a nice snag at short to end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Bravo's Landscaping turned two errors, a double from Larry Hernandez and a base hit into three runs to tie the game. In the top of the sixth inning, The Lobster Trap turned an error into a run to break the tie. Bravo's Landscaping left bases loaded in the bottom of the inning. Final inning In the top of the seventh and final inning, Scotty Rohlfsen start- ed it off with a double, followed by a triple from Jorge Hernandez. A double, walk and an error brought home another run. With two outs, Lupe Sanchez made an amazing play at second to end the inning. Down by four, Bravo's Landscaping got their last at bat. Two singles, a pop up, then a walk got a run home. Another run scored on the fielder's choice which brought the second out. A strikeout ended the game with the score Bravo's Landscaping 14, The Lobster Trap 16. For Bravo's Landscaping For Bravo's Landscaping, Larry Hernandez was three for three. Danny Alonso and Nick Flores both had three hits. Lupe Sanchez and Maria Reyes had two hits. With one hit each were Josh Flynn, Bart Glass, Jose Cuevas, Santiago Martinez, and Frank Rojo. For Lobster Trap For the Lobster Trap, Robert Reyes was four for four. Dave Clary was three for three. Scotty Rohlfsen also head three hits. Jorge Hernandez and Jimmy Felix had two hits. Tino Rodriguez, Manny Hernandez, Juan Rodriguez, and Aliana Gonzales all had one hit. Captain Marisa Morones has been a role model this season for the Lady Lancers softball team. She is the shortstop and nothing gets by her she has had 8 diving plays this year and some great hits. Alex Herrera has been named athlete of the week because of his great defense he has over 400 digs this season and over 50 aces. He leads the league in both of these categories as a sophomore. These volunteers help set up the Special thanks to Jim Felix for Senior Meals at Singing Waters, always having the field ready to pick up meals from restaurants, play on, and the City of Avalon for and deliver meals to homebound allowing the use of their field, participants of Meals on Wheels. Next up in the summer will New volunteers are asked to be Men's League on Fridays and donate their time one or more days the return of the Women's League per week, Monday through Friday, on Thursdays.
