PAGE TWO THE CATALINA SUNSHINE PSYCHOLOGY GOING CAMPING THIS SUMMER? (Continued from Page 1, Column 4) In the theory of the why and how of Motivity, the student finds a state- ment that the mechanisms of the res- piratory system (breathing), which in- elude the nose and throat, are possibly "points of contact" used not only for the transmission of voice sounds, but also in the reception of vibrations and other influences that act as stimuli for th~ neurons and the motor centers. To further illustrate this view, attention is directed to the muscular contraction at the throat when the "mind is closed," as in disobedience and re- venge; and in the physical relaxation of the "open mind," when the individ- ual is responding to stimuli that are sincere expressions of obedience and sympathy. SUNSHINE PSYCHOLOGY Quite recently Dr. Curtis W. Miller announced that by a system of "elec- tronic therapy" the blood of two re- lated individuals caused his device to vibrate and that in the tests made with unrelated bloods, the device failed to register. SUNSHINE PSYCHOLOGY The public school teachers of the mainland who have been accused of using the "adhesive tape system" for lalkative children should study emo- tion and breathing. Sealed lips forces the child to breathe through the nose. Nervous, talkative and restless chil- dren require more oxygen if they are to be expected to control their emo- tions. The adhesive tape system is a very crude technique for corrective meast~res. -- :0 :---- Three national honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and the OTder of the Coif, are to hold a com- bined meeting at University Park, Los Angeles, on Friday, June 6th, as an outstanding program event of a one- week Semi-Centennial Celebration of the University of Southern California. Rules which must be observ*d by national forest visitors are also listed. These include the securing of a camp fire permit, th~ carrying of a shovel and an ax suitable for fire fighting purposes, and no smoking in the forest during the fire season ex- cept in camps, at places of habitation and in special posted areas. ---------- :0 :--- The week of April 27 to May 3 will be observed as National B-tter Homes Week. Preparations have been. ,.,'ping on for months for programs to s:imu- late and encourage the improvem-nt of home conditions These include in many communities the openm:.~ of demonstration homes, planned and built at costs within the reach of fam- ilies of modest income, each complete- Iy furnished in keeping with the cost of the house and the needs of a fam- ily that might occupy it. Hundreds of attractive homes have in this way been built at costs below $5000, thus demonstrating that beauty, comfort and convenience are consistent with .economy. Through lectures, debates and discussions thousands of persons are reached and the effect has been a growing eagerness on the part of Am- erican homemakers to attain the bes:: possible type of home and community life. Better Homes in America main- tains a National Office in Washing- ton, D. C., under the direction of Dr. James Ford.
