Page 6 The ATAUNA ISLANDER Friday, March 27, 2009 II i I The Avalon Lancer Baseball team earned its first two victories of the season this past Saturday in a double header with Verbum Dei from Los Angeles. The Lancers are back playing on the high school field. In the first game of th~ day Avalon batted around the order in the first inning to put seven runs on the board. Sergio Rodriguez, Brett Hernandez and Everardo Barriga all hit doubles in the inning. Another run followed in the second inning, with five more in the third. Avalon added one more run in the fourth. Verbum Dei got their first run on the board in the fifth before the game ended after five innings with the score Verbum Dei 1, Avalon 14. Sergio Rodriguez was the winning pitcher. Avalon had 14 runs on 20 hits. Sergio Rodriguez was 3 for 3. Brian Ramirez and Everardo Barriga were 3 for 4. Brett Hernandez and Nick Viernes collected 2 hits, while J.D. Laflin, Esteban Pedroza, Allan Casillas, Christian Flores, Robert Hubbard and Derek Quesenberry all had 1 hit'. After a half hour break, the two teams went at it again. Verbum Dei scored 2 runs on a combination of hits and errors. Avalon immediately answered back with four runs in the first. Avalon added three more in the second. Verbum Dei put a run up in the third and another in the fourth. Avalon added a run in the third and another in the Sixth inning. Final score was Verbum Dei 4, Avalon 9. Avalon had 9 runs on 12 hits. Winning pitcher was Clint Engel. Brian Ramirez continued to carry a hot bat, going 3 for 4 again in this game, J.D. Laflin was 2 for 2. Other Lancers to collect a hit were Marco Gallegos, Brett Hernandez, Esteban Pedroza, Allan Casillas, Everardo Barriga, Clirrt Engel, and Nick Viernes. The man and boat were rescued and towed to Avalon Harbor. The man was then advised of Small Craft Advisory warnings. 1:31 p.m.Baywatch Isthmus responded to an emergency medi- cal service call for a report of a sick person aboard the Catalina Countess ferry. The person was assessed, treated and released. March 24 9:37a.m.---Baywatch Avalon responded to an emergency medi- cal service call. Personnel were dispatched to a report of a male patient with a medical emergen- cy. The Avalon Fire Department responded with Engine 1 and Rescue 4. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to the local hospital for further care and treatment. Noon--Baywatch Avalon PVE police requested help look- ing for possible cliff jumper.
