Klondyke Klash golf tourney this weekend The 36th Annual Klondyke Klash will be held Saturday, March 17, and Sunday, 'March 18, with 144 golfers and many alternates ready to golf. A handful of golfers have traveled from as far away as Alaska to compete in the weekend event. The tournament is in the traditional scramble format made up of 24 teams with six men representing each team. Three players from each team will play 18 holes on Saturday and the other half of each " team will play Sunday. There will be a Calcutta on Saturday afternoon at the Sand Trap once the results from the first day are posted. An awards dinner will be held Sunday evening at the 'M" Restaurant once the tournament has concluded. Heavy rain is expected all weekend, which should make this year's tournament very interesting. A minimum of nine holes must be played on each day unless the course is closed due to weather. Email your high resolution photo to ed@cinews.us. JESUS MARTIN (1931-2012) Jesus Martin, who was born on May 13, 1931. in Pegeros. Mexi- co, passed away Feb. 20. with his family at his bedside. Martin was a long time resident of Catalina. moving here in 1962. and work- ing 35 years as a landscaper for the Santa Catalina Island Company. He took great pride in making Ava- lon a beautiful place for all who lived there and also for those that visited. He loved the Island and its residents. Martin was an active mem- ber of Saint Catherine's Catholic Church for more than 50 years. He could always be found sitting on his favorite bench on Front Street with his wife Maria. visiting with friends or just enjoying retirement. He also enjoyed visits from his family including his six grandkids. He loved to spoil them all when they came to visit. He even became a great-grandfather last year. He is survived by Maria, his lov- ing wife of 47 years, his sons Frank and Horacio, both of Riverside, and Avturo of Avalon, his daugh- ters-imtaw, Beth and Rhonda, his grandkids, Fmnkie, C0dy, Mariah, Kayla, Jami'e/Brett, and also his great-granddaughter Chloe. Funer- al services were hetd on:Feb. 24, at Saint Catherine's CatlablicChurch. The Martin family was,grate.ful to have Jesus's longtime friend and priest, Father Paul Seibenand pre- side over the services. On behalf of the Martin family we would like to thank Father John at Saint Catherine's, the employees of the Island Company, the Sand Trap owners and their staff, the Avalon Cemetery staff and most of all his Island friends and family for their generous love and support.
