Virgie's Snack Bar wins a game,, but trails in the league BY PATTI ENGEL FOR THE ISLANDER Virgies Snack Bar battled with Coyote Joe's in the first game of the night. Virgie's Snack Bar was up to bat first, and Allan Vega opened with a double. Four singles followed, to bring home four runs. Coyote Joe's answered in the bottom of the inning with threebase hits, a walk, and an inside the park homerun from Frank Rojo to score five. Virgie's Snack Bar took back the lead in the second when a base hit, a walk and two errors brought home two more. In the fourth, Virgie's Snack Bar got another two on an error and a home run from Allan Vega. Coyote Joe's stayed close with a run in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth inning with bases loaded, Billy Boyd hit a Grand Slam to bring home four runners for Virgie's Snack Bar. Coyote Joe's got their last at bat, and brought home one run before leaving runners stranded to end the game. Final score Coyote Joe's 7, Virgie's Snack Bar 12. For Coyote Joe's, Chuy Sillas and Julio Chavoya were both two for two. Matilda Martinez and Jose Cuevas also had two hits. With a hit each were Jose Gamboa, Sergio Rodriguez, Frank Rojo and Francisco Bravo. For Virgie's Snack Bar, Gilbert Hernandez and Valeria Medina were three for three. Billy Boyd was two for two. Juan De La Cruz, Greg Alaniz and Ariel Lafontaine all collected one hit. Game two Game two was between Straight Up Builders and Bravo's Landscaping. Straight Up Builders got one run in the first off the home run from Josh Flynn. In the third, Straight Up Builders added to their lead when three walks, a sacrifice fly and three base hits equaled five runs. Straight Up Builders kept the pressure on in the fourth, with three more runs home. In the fifth, and what proved to be final inning, Straight Up Builders continued to roll, this time with two base hits and dou- bles from Danny Alonso, Josh Flynn and Robert Ozark to score four more. Bravo's Landscaping finally broke their funk when Joe Hernandez started off with a triple. A fielder's choice, a base hit and a triple from Anthony Hernandez brought home three runs. Time expired and the game ended with the score Bravo's Landscaping 3, Straight Up Builders 13. For Bravo's Landscaping, Joe Hernandez was two for two. Shawn Hall, Anthony Hernandez, Tyler Engel, Shaun Johnson and Cyndee Mahan all contrib- uted one hit. For Straight Up Builders, Josh Flynn and Scotty Rohlfsen were two for two. Danny Alonso also collected two hits. With one hit each were Robert Ozark, Bart Glass, Brian Wooten, Mike Fekete, Jimmy Guadagno, Amanda Younger and Mirta Mora. Bravo's Landscaping was up first and collected three runs on two walks, two base hits and a home run from Shawn Hall. Coyote Joe's answered back with two runs on two base hits and a walk. In the third, Bravo's Landscaping added to their lead when they took advantage of two errors, three walks and two base hits to bring home five. In the bottom of the fourth, Coyote Joe's edged ahead. Two walks, four base hits, and doubles from Jose Cuevas, Ron Bevins and Matilda Martinez brought home seven. In the sixth and final inning, Bravo's Landscaping again gained the lead when a key error in the outfield brought home three runs. With their last at bat, Coyote Joe's used a walk and a triple from Sergio Rodriguez to bring home two runs to tie it up. That's how the game ended, with an 11-11 tie and the tie for first place remains. For Bravo's Landscaping, J D Laflin was three for three. Tyler Engel was two for two. Joe Hernandez, Shawn Hall and Daniel Paradisi collected one hit. For Coyote Joe's, Joe Cuevas was three for three, Ron Bevins was two for two. With one hit each were Sergio Rodriguez, Frank Rojo, Juan Cisneros, Daniel Cuevas, Matilda Martinez, Maria Reyes and Rachel McCormick. In game two, Straight Up Builders took on Virgie's Snack Bar. In the bottom of the first, Virgie's Snack Bar took the 3-0 lead on doubles from Allan Vega and Jose Octavo, and a home run from Curtis Hall. Straight Up Builders tied it in the second when they scored three runs on five base hits. Virgie's Snack Bar answered back with two runs on a triple from Alex Trainer and a home run from Allan Vega. In the third, the bats woke up for Straight Up Builders. They pounded out three singles, dou- bles from Danny Alonso, Bart Glass and Mike Fekete and a home run from Josh Flynn to bring home seven. Virgie's Snack Bar stayed in the game, bringing home two in the bottom of the inning from three base hits and a double from Curtis Hall. Straight Up Builders didn't let up in the fourth. Five base hits, an error "and a home run from Brian Wooten scored eight more. Virgie's Snack Bar didn't give up. With time expired and their last at bat, they rallied to bring home five on a walk, three singles, a double from Valeria Medina and a triple from Allan Vega. They fell short of the win, with the final score Virgie's Snack Bar 12, Straight Up Builders 18. For Virgie's Snack Bar, the hot bats belonged to Allan Vega, Curtis Hall and Jose Octavo, all going three for three. Joel Wilson, Alex Trainer, Valeria Medina, Autumn Brown and I Jennifer Lopez all collected One hit. For Straight Up Builders, Bart Glass was three for three.
