CIMC's Dumont works with dietary needs Food/nutrition pro- fessional is their kitchen supervisor BY JUDY HIBBS Carol Dumont, DSS (Dietary Service Supervisor) ordered up a prime rib dinner for CIMC's long- term residents and staff this New Year's Day and from all accounts - it was delicious. Dumont is the food and nutri- tion professional who supervis- es the Catalina Island Medical Center's kitchen crew. She works directly with doc- tors, dietitians, medical staff and patient's families to provide the best meals possible. Originally from New Jersey, Dumont has worked in Avalon for over 10 years. She first visited the Island with her sister in the late 1980s and was moved to announce i / Carol Dumont "one day I am going to live here." With a technical background in food quality control, Dumont worked at Hellman's, the company that makes Skippy Peanut Butter and Real Mayonnaise before get- ting her continuing education credits and certification at Long Beach City College. She also worked at Orange Grove Rehab and Long Beach Medical Center prior to settling on CIMC - a job she "absolutely loves" in a place where she enjoys Island life, camping, hiking and swimming. Special diets are not a problem for Dumont who feels lucky to be in a small hospital setting with a "family feel" and the option to cater to residents with what they'd want served (like prime rib!). She plans the most delightful meals and is quick to flash a beautiful smile. It's a blessing to have Carol Dumont's expertise and care in our dietary department at Catalina Island Medical Center Neva Jennings was child star and opera singer Neva Jennings passed away on February 6, 2014, at the age of 87.
