Local talent show set for Annual event set for 7 p.m., Feb. 10,at : school auditorium : FOR THE ISLANDER Calling all creative folk! It's a night of romance sure to entertain al.l. It is an annual event and this ~y~ it will be held on-Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the sciaobl auditoriuml The first half will be local public school talent and the second half will be island wide talent on the stage to entertain you. Don't miss it! It's a $5 entrance fee and all proceeds to the PTA. There will also be an intermission with food and refreshments. It will be a night to enjoy! City of Avalon PUBLIC NOTICE PLANNING COMMISSION VACANCY NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a vacancy exists for one position as an alternate Commissioner on the Planning Commission. One term to fill a vacated position. Avalon Municipal Code Section 9-1.01 states: Only those persons who are physically present in the City of Avalon or within two (2) miles of the city limits at least nine (9) months of each calendar year (excluding special circumstances such as extended personal or family illness, temporary absences necessitated by the proposed appointee's employment, military service, and similar situations) or who owns or serves in a management position with an Avalon-based business may be a member of the Planning Commission. Catalina Co-Ed Softball returned this week to the newly renovated diamond on Joe Machado Field. The field has gotten rave reviews. Game one The night started off with Virgie's Snack Bar taking on Straight Up Builders~ Allen Vega opened the game with an inside the park home run. After a double play, Curtis Hall hit it out for the second run of the inning. Straight Up Builders took their turn at bat in the bottom half of the inning. Danny Alonso hit a triple and scored on the sacrifice fly. Two errors, two doubles and a base hit scored four more. Virgies Snack Bar regained the lead in the second when four base hits and an error brought home four. In the third, Straight Up Builders edged past Virgie's when an error was converted to a run off the homerun from Josh Flynn. Straight Up Builders added one more in the fourth when Bart Glass hit a double and later scored. Please e-mail your submissions to editor@thecatalinaislander.com PUBLIC NOTICE ANNUAL RESIDENTIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Wednesday, February 8, 2917, the City of Avalon will begin Annual Registration for all Residential Vehicles, ( full size, blue stickers) and Residential Golf Cart (Autoette) permits and will continue through 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017. Vehicle permits renewed after this date shall be considered late, and will be required to pay a "late renewal charge" of $25.00 per vehicle in addition to the regular registration fee of $30.00. Residential vehicle permits shall be ineligible for renewal and shall be subject to losing all prior rights of registration if not renewed before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday June1, 20t7. All nonresident owners of residential dwelling units for the first time after September 2, 1988, will be issued autoette permits which require overnight off street parking between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. If you wish to register a vehicle at this time, you must drive it to City Hall in order to determine that the overall length does not exceed the maximum length restriction of 200" for Vehicles and 120" for Autoettes. Electric Autoettes meeting the Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, (NEV), or Low Speed Electric Vehicle, (LSV) requirements, may not exceed 138" in length by 61" in width. Please check with City Hall regarding alternative "autoette, micro car" vehicles for length/size requirements before purchase and registratioh. You also must bring current registration and provide proof of residency, (address), or nonresident real property ownership since April 18, 1989.
