real estate With ChuckLiddell Bottle found after more than 40 years at sea Since becoming "Catalina's Official Greeter," March 10, 2014, when the Chamber Of Commerce assigned me to greet the cruise ships and cross channel carrier, I have answered 62,084 ques- tions. Chuck Liddell Columnist LET IT POUR! Boy, the rain has really been coming down inthe last month or so! RickHarp has figured that we have had 7.52" as of Jan. 11, and "Dr. Bill" Bushing has told us that this figure is twice of the average, going back almost 70 years! With our season being Oct. 1-Sept. 30, we have plenty of time to get our #'s up! Only problem is that our drought does not have to do with water going into our res- ervoirs, as only Hamilton Cove and those in the Interior are using it. We are on desalinization and that is our problem. WE NEED HOLDING FACILITIES! OVERCOMING DEPRESSION. I shared with you my "secret" for overcoming my typic.al "Holiday Depression," and that was to commit yourselves in helping others. Hopefully some of your took my suggestion. This past weekend, seven Avalon Rotarians, plus five friends, traveled to Ensenada, Mexico, and joined five other Rotarian Clubs and approximate- ly 100 other volunteers to pack- age and distribute food, clothing, blankets, toys, to approximately 1,200 needy families. It was hard Work and felt great! Don't for- get, those in need have concerns ALL YEAR ROUND, not just during the holiday season. Find other ways to serve throughout the year. (One sour note, we ended up in the "Sentri Lane". used by officials on a regular basis, at the border, BAD, BAD, "GOOGLE MAP," and we were shuttled aside and "kindly" reprimanded. Our passport information was taken down and released, but IF we do it again, $5,000/passen- ger! By the way, you must have "Passports" both for Mexico and Canada!) oee CHECK YOUR BOTTLE #. This one even I find it impos- sible to believe! On Aug. 19, 2016, I shared a story about throwing 201 messaged bottles into the ocean, "Happy 200th United States" (see this and. ALL of my other submis- sions, www.catalinais- landman.com), and a couple of weeks ago bottle #1933 was locat- ed in Punta Colonett, Baja California, near Ensenada (I probably could have , found it myself while I was down there!), after traveling for only 40 3/4 YEARS!!!!! IMAGINE! Either it has just been sit- ting there, undetected, or it has traveled around the world on currents many, many times! If #1933 was your bott!e, CONGRATULATIONS ! The Museum has a list of each bottle owner and hopefully we will be able to share more information next week! WOW! Still hope for my #1947! events, locals, you name it. If you would like, I will work with you with your ideas. eee DIDN'T GET THE CHRISTMAS PRESENT YOU WANTED? "WEST OF THE WEST," 3-hour PBS special on the 8 Channel Islands, with me humbly featured on the Catalina segment, is ONLY available on Catalina at the "Steamer Trunk" and "DC-3"/"Air port." Not living on Catalina? Send $23 to me, P. O. Box 1533, Avalon, CA 90704, and I witl send you a DVD. GETTING TO KNOW YOU! Now is the best opportunity for us locals, who THINK we know each other pretty well; to REALLY learn about how remarkable we all are by invit- ing each other for lunch/dinner/ coffee just to spend some time together. Things are slow, we have the TIME! Use it wisely! CA 8RE License #013934874 Bahia Vista C-53 1 BD, 1 BA, 797 SF +/- End Unit. Open floor-plan. Both great establishments provide FREE shuttle service! By the way, "Holiday Inn" now provides "Islander Rates" in Long Beach! Any other restaurants I over- looked, let me know and I will DEFINITELY add you to my list (chuckliddell.catalina@gmail. corn). SHARE YOUR OWN STORIES IN MY COLUMN! NO DISASTER! I always enjoy watching visitors at Noon, at the end of each month, when our sirens go off, simply to check them out. They look to the skies for bombs or fire and the ocean for giant waves! I guess this isn't done much on the mainland anymore! If our ene- mies want to catch us off guard, attack us Noon, at the end of any given month, we will tt~ink ~it is simply a "siren drill"! HEAVEN FORBID!
