SCIF students see
significant score
improvements
BY JENEA DOMINGUEZ
It's that time of year when
Avalon High School's Senior
class is taking Scholastic Aptitude
Tests, writing essays, applying on
the Common App, and all around
stressing about what they are
going to be doing for the next
several years.
This year Susanna Savitt scored
an 800 on her Critical Reading
portion on her SAT, a perfect
score.
Michelle Rufino saw drastic
improvements in her scores in
Math and the Essay.
Ariella Markowitz and Alex
Pedroza also saw some big score
jumps.
These students all participate
in the Santa Catalina Island Fund
for Higher Education, an organi-
zation that provides SAT tutoring,
mentoring, and college counseling
to the local students of Avalon.

These students are to be com-
mended for their hard work and
effort thereby increasing their
chances to get into the universi-
ties of their choosing. Many other
students saw favorable outcomes
at this last SAT testing.
The students said they want
to thank Elisabeth Huart, who
spent her summer teaching skills
and tutoring them to get the best
scores possible. The SCIF itself
issued thanks to Shmoop, a web-
site geared towards teens in need
of SAT test preparation, for donat-
ing SAT prep materials.
